Do I need to know how to swim for surf lessons?
Definitely, YES.
What type of surf lessons do you offer?
- Private Surf Lessons: One surf instructor to one student. Must be at least 5 years old. MUST KNOW HOW TO SWIM.
- Private Group Surf Lessons: One surf instructor to four students. Must be at least 13 years old and in physical shape to paddle yourself to the waves and back to the surf instructor after riding every wave. MUST KNOW HOW TO SWIM.
What is included in the surf lessons?
- Surfboard (Usually lessons are done on 11ft but smaller boards may be used.
- Leash (It's attached to your ankle so your surfboard don't go far away).
- Surf Wax (Provides grip when standing on the surfboard).
- Surf Jersey (Prevents people from getting rash on their stomach area).
- One surf instructor per four students is the maximum ratio according to State of Hawaii Department of Land Natural Resources Boating Division. Surf Instructors must also be licensed by DLNR and be lifeguard/CPR/First Aid certified through American Redcross or similar.
What's the cost of a surf lesson?
- Private Surf Lessons in the Waikiki area ranges anywhere from $175.00.
- Private Group Surf Lessons in the Waikiki area ranges anywhere from $125 per person (2max).
What should I do to prepare myself for the surf lesson?
- Get a good night sleep the prior day of the surf lesson.
- Make sure to stretch out before the lesson.
- Drink some water at least an hour before the surf lesson and maybe a sip just before the start.
- Put on sunblock on the back of your neck and legs but DON'T put any sunblock on the front of your legs or torso area or else the surfboard will be slippery.
What should I bring to the surf lesson?
- Towels
- Drinking water or juice
- Change of clothes
- Lunch money
- An adventurous set of mind.
- And some energy.
